Loft Conversions

Loft conversions can involve both Planning and Building Regulations applications. There are many constraints on loft conversions, and there are various ways of building them to overcome some of the council's more onerous constraints. Therefore, we are expert in not only the planning field, but also in the constructional field, of loft conversions.

For example, upon the successful grant of planning permission (if indeed planning permission is required), it is our intention to design the structural elements of the loft conversion such that the minimum of steel beams are used, and where possible only timber sections form the loft conversion.

There are many factors affecting the successful construction of a loft conversion, and we can advise on various options available to achieve a reduction in the more onerous provisions of, say, means of escape, where suitable, simple alternatives are available, (e.g. a linked smoke detector system in place of self closing fire resistant doors throughout the house).

We pride ourselves on having the skill and expertise to optimise the design of all loft conversions. Different rules usually apply to loft conversions within flats buildings, but we can usually achieve complience here too.
